Phrygian cap (sometimes also called Thracian cap) is a soft rounded cap with the top directed forward. It was called after Phrygia, an ancient country in the central part of Asia Minor. It is known as a symbol of freedom and revolution.
It was widely used by the tribes which in ancient times inhabited Thrace, Dacia and Dalmatia.
Later this name spread on helmets with the characteristic, leant forward, dome.
Imprints of this helmet are often found on the graphic sources and bás-reliefs dated 12th - first halh of 13th century.
As far as we know, only one specimen of this type of medieval helmets had been found as yet.
The helm is made of hot rolled 2 mm (14 ga) steel, the visor is made of 1,5mm (16 ga) steel. The surfaces are satin polished outside and painted inside. Steel rivets and buckles.
