Steel english full plate armour, dated 1483

Gothic style armour has appeared in the second half of the XV century on the territory of Germany. The local armourers have improved and modified the already existing "Milanese" technique of making armour.

Emphasis was placed on greater mobility than the "Italian". Parts of the armor began to be smaller and sharper. Surface of armour was covered with ribs. Such ribs made armour stronger and were protecting from chopping strikes.

Hands were protected with gauntlets with elongated wristbands. Another feature detail of armour was long pointy sabatons (used mostly by riders). Presented armour was used mostly by infantry. Plate skirt protected the warrior's groin. But for horse soldier, it was unnecessary.

Helmet sallet was typical for such armour. It usually was worn together with gorget - bevor, which protected chin and neck.
