This model was very popular in Europe during 14-15th century among cavalry, sword-bearers, etc.
The plates are butted. Maximum distance between plates is 0.5cm
What makes out brigandine durable and reliable one?
1. Each Brigandine consists of 3 layers:
- Canvas with plates firmly riveted on in 3 or 5 points
- Outer shell made of wool or leather, deerskin, velvet orsilk
- Inner shell
and is sewn as inner shell+canvas with plates+outer shell
2. Riveting of steel plates is performed with 2 steel washers and leather washer to fabric side
3. The type of leather fastenings: Each strap is made of 2 leather layers sewn together. Each strap is sewn NOT to the outer shell of brigandine but riveted in 2 points to inner steel plate. It prevents their tearing off the outer shell, as well as wearing-out and tearing of both inner and outer shells.
